About

I’m a traveling junkie, 80s music lover, mac & cheese connoisseur, amateur wine snob, party-planning priestess and Chicago transplant living in Southern California. I spend my days shamelessly people watching, scouring the world for amazing food and experiences, and working the word “whilst” into conversations wherever possible. Basically, I find adventure in the everyday and have a unending compulsion to write about it. I hope you enjoy reading my mind.

Hope you like my new artwork! Original elephant linework was created exclusively for White Elephant in the Room by Vertical Array. Alex did an amazing job bringing my little white elephant to life and I add in the decorative elements and caption to coordinate with each post.

Hey I like your posts, and the general idea of this site. I have just started my own (small) blog with some random musings etc on it. Would be great if you had a look.
    http://kittypirate.wordpress.com/

    • Hi kittypirate! Welcome to WordPress and I would love to check out your site. It’s so much fun to read new blogs and random musings are my favorite 🙂 Thanks for checking out my post! ~ Beth

  7. Love the blog! Just subscribed and can’t get enough! Keep it up 🙂

  8. Hi!

I just stumbled upon your blog. Love the post about Facebook / Status updates!
I’m am wondering how you got your tags to be all different sizes? I love that look, but can’t seem to figure out how to do it. It is just the theme you used? Or some sort of setting?

    Thanks!

    • Hi Loloma! Glad you liked the post 🙂 The different sized tags is actually a widget in my theme called “Word Cloud.” I’m not sure if all themes have that option, but that would be the first place to check. My theme is Twenty Ten in case you can’t find it. Good luck!

  9. Add me to the list of former Chicagoans with a WordPress blog! I read a few of your posts and was seriously snorting out my coffee… Look forward to reading more!

Shameless plug time – if you have a chance, stop by… http://www.foodandwinehedonist.com

    Hi Beth!

I’ve been folowing your blog for a few months now. I love your writing style and am using your blog to showcase a few pieces to my 8th grade students on style and non-fiction writing! You might notice a spike in your readership! Hope it’s not too annoying!

    Keep it up!
    Christine

    • You just made my day Christine. Thank you so much! I hope your students enjoy and I’d love to hear any feedback they have!

      ~ Beth

      • Mrs. Beadel says:

Their assignment for tonight is to read your post on “Movie Theater Casting Call”. Will let you know!

P.S.- Your back to school post rocked my socks. I’m ashamed to say I still have a hot pink and turquoise protractor stuffed somewhere in the confines of my old bedroom in my parents’ house. And Lisa Frank: Let’s. Not. Even. Go. There. I miss that stuff. 🙂

      • Lisa Frank was my icon! Too funny.

I’m adoring the incredibly hilarious and thoughtful responses from your students to my post. If it’s ok with you I would love to thank them for their ideas and comments. I don’t want to interfere with your assignment but let me know what you suggest!

      • Mrs. Beadel says:

Beth, Oh please do!!! I am so happy you are reading them!!!!! I would love to have them comment here as well, but I need to check our school policy on that! They would feel like total celebs if you did!

        Thanks so much!!!

        – Christine

      • Great I’ll write today 🙂 And if the policy allows, their comments would be more than welcome!

      • Hi Christine! I just tried to comment but it seems the function has been disabled. Please pass along my thanks to your class though! Or let me know if there’s another way for me to do so on the blog post 🙂

        ~ Beth

  12. Mrs. Beadel says:

Hey, Beth! I disable comments after 5 days (since I grade theirs and there is a time limit) but I changed it for that post. I would love them to see how interactive blogging can be, so if you can write to us, we’d love you forever! Thank you so much!

    Christine

Ello ello! I’m a fledging blogger out here! I really like your style of writing (mainly because it is incisive and pretty hilarious). Give a big thanks to WordPress for directing me to it. Anywho, although I’ve been putting a few posts out there in the giant mind-warping blogosphere I was wondering if you have any tips for a newby? Or if you care to do so (and I would be EVER SO grateful), maybe take a look at my blog and give me a few specific pointers? Or whatever you feel sticks out to you after having been so successful with a blog. MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS!

    • Hey izzymac10! I apologize for the delay in response. I’m so pleased you like my blog! I checked out a few of your posts – how amazing you got to spend time abroad! I lived in Paris for awhile back in 2001 so my “blogging” was in old school form 🙂

Your posts are great – very personal and insightful! My only advice is keep it up. Life gets pretty busy and you’ll be really glad you have it all to look back on. Thanks for stopping by!

      Beth

  38. Hi there, Pam – I danced through the 80’s and the music followed me. I’m glad you like the 80s – being in my 20’s during the 80’s was great – unabashed fun without much of the serious side effects…
You seem to be enjoying life in the 2000’s (I still have a hard time writing any date passed 1989)
